CAL decides to continue with ‘old guns’ for now

LUCKNOW: The much-anticipated annual general meeting of the Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) on Sunday allegedly turned out to be ‘fixed’ as the rivals agreed to let the present office-bearers continue.

This was being anticipated as all 80 people, including CAL officials and rivals, decided to defuse the situation without much discussion.

This, however, cleared the decks for cricket activities in Lucknow as all events were on the hold for the last four months when the anti-CAL group threatened to disrupt the matches.

The rival group had even created ruckus during the age group trials at the Northern Railway stadium here after which CAL had to shift the trials to Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.

“Everything seems to be fixed as the authorities concerned agreed to fulfil all the demands of rivals,” said a source in CAL, adding, “It really surprised everyone as no one raised voice for elections, which are due for the last many years.”

The meeting decided that the present set of CAL led by its president Navneet Sehgal would continue for another year. “Many development plans, like more tournaments, hike in fee of umpires etc., were discussed at the AGM,” said another source.

“Now, the CAL office would be modernised and new officials would be posted there,” he further said.

The last elections of the cricket body took place in 2005.
