PGI to appoint staff for Trauma Centre-II

LUCKNOW:The Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) will appoint staff for Trauma Centre-II. Those already appointed by the King George’s Medical University (before the centre was handed over to PGI) will now join KGMU.

A government order has clarified that appointmen­ts already done on posts of 13 assistant professors by KGMU will be shifted to the medical university along with the₹9 crore equipment that KGMU purchased for Trauma Centre-II.

On February 12, 2016 KGMU handed over TC-II, located in Vrindavan Yojna opposite PGI, to start services on the basis that KGMU already has a Trauma Centre on its campus in Chowk. Prof Sandip Tiwari was made the in charge of the new TC-II and services were started in December 2016. In all, 454 posts including 50 of faculty and 404 outsourced were sanctioned after which a13 faculty members were appointed .

The present state government handed over the TC-II back to PGI. It has now been decided that all the property of TC-II will be handed over to PGI and fresh appointmen­t can be done by PGI on the remaining posts. The ₹ 9,20,09,328 worth equipment purchased for TC-II will be shifted to Trauma Centre in KGMU

PGI can now make a proposal for additional posts of faculty and even medical staff and funds before the state government

PGI director Prof Rakesh Kapoor said that the TC-II would be started in phases.

“We might start with 20 beds and then add beds and department­s accordingl­y,” he said.
