GURGAON: The Haryana government on Monday took administrative control of the Ryan International School as it reopened 10 days after an eight-year-old student was found dead with his throat slit inside the institute.

The murder of the Class 2 student in the prestigious school brought the safety of school children into sharp focus and sparked protests in many parts of the country.

A 42-year-old conductor of a school bus has been arrested and the state government has handed over the probe into the murder to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

With attendance down to nearly 20% – only three to four students of each class were present – classes were not held on Monday even as several parlook ents said they were contemplating withdrawing their children from the school. Parents were seen returning with their wards after they were given unsatisfactory replies by the management.

“I want to withdraw my son’s admission from this school. He has refused to attend classes and is very scared to visit the school premises,” said Madan Kumar, a software engineer.

“Shockingly, when I approached the teachers today, they were not even interested to counsel parents and asked to for another school in the city,” he added.

However, deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh tried to assure the parents that their children are safe in the school and changes will take place within 15 days as the administration is working towards the issues related to safety and security of the students.

“We have taken over the management of the school, it is an administrative takeover. The assets and liabilities for next three months will be routed through me. Though only 250 students came to attend the classes and there were transport issues but will be sorted out by Monday evening”, said Singh.

More than 100 police personnel were also deployed in civvies inside the school premises and outside. Even the station house officers were seen keeping vigil outside the school campus.
