ALLAHABAD: Uttar Pradesh sports and youth welfare minister Chetan Chauhan has said that the Yogi government is making sincere efforts to provide government jobs to sportspersons who have represented the state at the national and international levels.

He added that the sportspersons would be given jobs in 11 government departments. Chauhan was speaking after inaugurating the Rojgar Mela (employment fair) at the KP Community Centre on Monday. He also said the government was framing a new sports policy to ensure transparency in the functioning of sports bodies and selection of players.

“For this, the government has decided to hire experienced sportspersons who have represented the state and the country at the international level,” the minister said.

On cleanliness, he said paan and gutkha had been banned in stadiums and instructions had been issued to authorities to initiate strict action against those found guilty of violating the orders. The sports minister said the government was making all efforts lift the status of sports in the state.

Chauhan emphasised on providing basic facilities at the existing stadiums rather focusing on constructing new ones. He said that the government was committed to providing better facilities to sportspersons at hostels. This could be gauged by the fact that the government had now raised fund for sports kits from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500.
