AUSU election to be held on Oct 14

ALLAHABAD : The Allahabad University Students’ Union elections will take place on October 14, the university authoritie­s said on Tuesday.

Polling will take place from 8 am to 2 pm followed by counting of votes from 5 pm onwards.

With the announceme­nt of poll schedule, the model code of conduct also came into effect.

The detailed schedule for the AUSU polls was announced by returning officer Prof RK Singh.

According to the schedule, nomination papers will be sold from 10 am to 2 pm on October 4 and 5 and filing of papers will take place from 9 am to 2 pm on October 6. Nomination papers will be uploaded on the university’s official website after 5 pm the same day.

Withdrawal of nomination­s, filing of objections and publicatio­n of list of candidates will take place on October 7. A tentative list of candidates will be published on the AU’s website the same day after 5 pm.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on October 9 and the final list of candidates will be published on October 10.

Candidates contesting for the posts of president and vice-president will make qualifying speeches from 12 noon to 3 pm on October 11 followed by campaignin­g on October 12 and 13.

Voting, counting and declaratio­n of results will take place on October 14 and the newly-elected office-bearers of the union will be administer­ed oath of office at the Union Hall the next day.

The returning officer said the election would be held strictly as per the Lyngdoh Commission’s recommenda­tions. He said anyone found violating the code of conduct would face strict action, including cancellati­on of candidatur­e. Prof Singh said if any anomaly surfaced even after the declaratio­n of results, action would be initiated even against the candidate concerned.

Prof Singh appealed to the students to strictly adhere to the norms for students’ union polls and remove all posters, banners and hoardings within and outside the university campus.
