MAN WHO LOOTED CAR AND KILLED DRIVER HELD

With the arrest of a dreaded criminal in Sarojini Nagar area, the city police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked a case of car loot and the murder of its driver.

It also claimed to have foiled a loot attempt in the state capital.

The police recovered the looted car, nearly six mobile phones snatched from different persons and an illegal firearm from the possession of the arrested man identified as Akash Singh of Gonda.

He has over 10 criminal cases related to attempt to murders, kidnapping, loot and arms act.

Additional superinten­dent of police (ASP), East, Sarvesh Mishra said Akash was arrested on a tip off about movement of criminal elements on Tuesday night.

Akash was with an accomplice, who managed to escape, when the police team intercepte­d a car in which they were travelling.

Mishra said Akash confessed during interrogat­ion that he and his accomplice Ankit Kumar Singh was involved in a car loot and murder of its driver on September 4.

He also revealed that how he and Ankit booked a car for Rampur from Lucknow and called the driver to pick them from Madiaon.

The duo strangulat­ed the driver to death after asking him to stop the car to attend nature’s call near Itaunja toll plaza.

He said they later disposed of the body in Keshavmau village on Misrikh road in Sitapur. He said the driver, Ajai alias Lallu’s decomposed body was recovered by the Sitapur police only two days back. Car owner, Ved Prakash Yadav, had lodged an FIR regarding Lallu’s disappeara­nce with Alambagh police station on September 6.

The ASP said the two accused thereafter travelled along different districts, including Rampur, Shahjahapu­r, Farrukhaba­d, Kannuaj, Kanpur, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Faizabad and returned to Lucknow. He said the duo also looted seven mobile phones from five different persons in Shahjahanp­ur, Kanpur, Pratapgarh and Faizabad using the same car. He said efforts are on to arrest his accomplice Ankit too.
