J’khand cabinet nod to salary hike of MLAs

RANCHI: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the salary hike of lawmakers, including members of Jharkhand legislativ­e assembly and assembly staff. An average of 33% hike was proposed and approved.

Following this, the salary of the CM will go up to ₹80,000 from ₹60,000, while ministers will get ₹65,000 compared to their earlier monthly salary of ₹50,000. Legislator­s will get ₹40,000 while the chief whip will be paid ₹50,000.

Similarly, the Speaker’s salary will jump from ₹55,000 to ₹78,000, while the leader of opposition will now be paid ₹65,000 — a raise of ₹15,000. The regional allowance of the legislator­s will also go up by ₹30,000 every month.

The cabinet also gave its nod to the proposal of linking public toilets, which have come up under the Swachh Bharat Mission, with Google’s mapping system.

Giving details, cabinet secretary SKG Rahate said the linking would help people locate toilets easily. The government has decided to rope in the Quality Council of India on nomination basis to develop the applicatio­n.

Rahate said the hike was approved on the recommenda­tions of an assembly committee set up in 2015.

Clearing the proposal of solar plants on rooftops with grid connectivi­ty, the cabinet gave its nod to bringing 14,000 government buildings under the scheme that will provide freedom to developers to install the plants and sell power (in case of excess) on negotiated tariff to Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL). A sum of ₹257.40 crore has been sanctioned for the scheme.

The cabinet also approved sanction of ₹6,334.37 crore for the maternity benefit scheme under Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana for the year 2017-18.

In another decision, approval was given to appoint Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, as a consultant to study and suggest means to increase tiger population in Palamau Tiger Reserve on nomination basis.
