A political conspiracy, say professors
LUCKNOW: Authorities and professor sat the Banaras Hindu Univer sity (BHU) claimed that the Saturday’s incident on the campus was a well-hatched political conspiracy tom align the university’s image in the country.
They said a section of politicians used an old decision of the BHU administration taken for the safety of girl hostel le rs to trigger unrest on campus at the time of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Varanasi. A few days ago, the BHU administration had tried to enforce an old rule for girl hostellers which restricted their‘ out of host elvisits’ till 9 pm. It is clearly mentioned in BHU’ s hostel manual that girl hostellers would not move out after 9pm. At the time of admission to hostels, every girl inmate and her parents are apprised of this rule and are made to give an undertaking. “How canano ld guideline cause controversy today?” asked a BHU professor on condition of anonymity.
“An incident of eve-teasing was blown out of proportion by trouble-makers,” he added. A third year girl student of the Bachelor of Fine Arts( visual arts department) had lodged a complaint with thechief proctor and the hostel ward en regarding eveteasing last week. The girl, who belongs to New Delhi, never staged a protest and did not cre- ate any controversy. “It was an incident of eve-teasing which was reported by the victim. The BHU administration took note of the issue but people with vested interest got an opportunity to create a controversy ,” public relations officer, BHU, Rajesh Singh told HT over the phone .“The girl also appeared before the vicechancellor and narrated how the issue was hijacked and blown out of proportion by some people,” Singhadded.“If this was an agitation by girls, who were the people who hurled bombs and resorted to violence on the campus?” asked a senior professor a tB H U.
“It is a well-hatched plan to m align the image ofBHUVC Prof G irish Chandra Trip at hi and also of the university as a whole in the country,” said BHU Prof KK Mishra.
