Special security force on lines of CISF to come up in state

LUCKNOW: The UP police top brass are mulling to raise a new ‘special security force’ for the state on the lines of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

A senior IPS officer said the special force will reportedly take care of security of industrial units, government infrastructure projects, establishments, metro rail projects and some important worship places located all over the state. Moreover, the paid services of special force will also be available for private projects setting up in the state to earn revenue for the state police, he added.

The officer said director general of police (DGP), Sulkhan Singh on Tuesday held a marathon discussion with senior police officials including additional DGP (law and order), Anand Kumar and senior officials of provincial armed constabulary (PAC) to prepare proposal for the special security force. He said the proposal will be soon sent to the state government for final approval.

Talking to media persons, Anand Kumar admitted that the plan to raise a special security force is under consideration and soon the proposal will be sent to the state government.

Another senior police officer said the state police top brass discussed about the plan with senior officials of PAC, the already existing armed force of the state police, about establishing the new force. He said the main agenda of the discussion of the recruitment process, training process of the recruited personnel, salary grade and deployment. The initial plan is to raise 4-5 companies and increase the strength gradually, he added.

The officer said the point-wise details have been prepared after a long discussion and soon the proposal will be prepared keeping in mind the requirement and utility of the force. He said the experts of CISF and other security forces would be roped in for the training of recruited personnel.

He said the special security force will take over the security responsibility of metro projects, small installations and some worship places initially. He said the availability of special security force services will also encourage companies to set-up their projects in the state.

He said the CISF provides security cover to 300 industrial units, government projects and establishments located all over the country.

He said industrial sectors like atomic power plants, space installations, oil fields, refineries, major ports, heavy engineering, steel plants, barrages, fertiliser units, airports and hydroelectric/thermal power plants owned and controlled by Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and currency note presses are protected by CISF.
