LUCKNOW: With hectic urban lifestyles, there’s growing health consciousness among people. Citizens want to jog or walk for good heart health, but fail to do so due to many reasons including long working hours, reveals a survey.

“Eighty-two per cent people in Lucknow told us that long working hours make it difficult for them to adopt measures for good heart health,” said Dr Anuj Maheshwari, endocrinologist from Lucknow who was part of the survey carried out in Lucknow, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata (1,306 respondents).

Sharing the findings of the survey titled ‘Safolalife Study’, he said people also blamed their bosses for restricting employees from making efforts to be healthy by setting tough targets.

“With other family members reluctant on having healthy food, housewives usually skip healthy diet as they are required to cook it separately for themselves,” said Dr Maheshwari.

More Indians have come to realise the risk of cardiovascular diseases, but so far there has been very little action against the awareness generated on health issues.

Also 81% of the female respondents said they spend time on the phone and tablet and do not realise where the time goes. “It is high time we all should recollect the incorrect ways of living and make adequate changes starting with the possible ones,” he said, adding: “To start with, dietary changes can be made to make sure whatever we eat is healthy.”
