LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government will soon set up branch offices of its official recruitment agency for foreign employers, the UPFC Overseas Manpower Recruitment Agency (UPFCOMRA), in Lucknow and Varanasi also.

This will be in addition to the branch office being set up in Gorakhpur. The UPFCOMRA already has its offices in Meerut and Ghaziabad.

While Lucknow and Varanasi are the Lok Sabha seats of union home minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi respectively, chief minister Yogi Adityanath represented Gorakhpur in the Lok Sabha till recently.

“Uttar Pradesh Finance Corporation’s OMRA division incharge from Meerut SK Gupta has submitted necessary documents with the office of the Protector General of Emigrants (Ministry of External Affairs) in New Delhi about 10 days ago. A team of Protector of Emigrants office from Rae Bareli has conducted inspection at the UPFCOMRA’s proposed branch office sites in Lucknow, Varanasi and Gorakhpur. The branch offices will be set up at regional offices of UPFC in the respective cities. We hope to get license for these branch offices soon,” said a senior officer.

Besides being associated with the Prime Minister and the chief minister, Varanasi and Gorakhpur are important towns of east UP and a number of skilled/ unskilled workers from these areas seek jobs abroad.

The UPFCOMRA was set up at the behest of state government to help, guide and recruit skilled/ unskilled workers for employers abroad.

The state government had asked the UPFC to set up the UPFCOMRA as 30% of skilled/ unskilled workers going for skilled/unskilled workers’ jobs in foreign countries are from Uttar Pradesh. The need to set up a government agency was felt as 90% of these workers get recruited through unauthorised agents or sub-agents who often exploit the workers.

The UPFCOMRA, with its offices in Ghazaibad and Meerut, is registered with the ministry for external affairs to work as the authorised recruitment agent from February 10, 2016 to February 2, 2021 for skilled/unskilled workers seeking jobs abroad. The UPFCOMRA had obtained the license on giving a security of Rs 50 lakh.
