Top shuttlers advance to quarterfinals
LUCKNOW: Top shuttlers like Abhiyansh Singh, Amolika Singh, Samridhi Singh, Shruti Mishra, Shivangi and Tanisha Singh continued to enjoy their winning streak even on the second day of the three-day Senior State Championship here on Friday. Abhiyansh Singh beat Arunashu Patra 21-18, 21-15 to make it to the men’s singles quarterfinals. He also made it to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles. While pairing with Shruti Mishra, Abhiyansh had a walk over as rivals didn’t turn up. In other mixed doubles match, Samridhi Singh and Kapil Chaudhary beat Anubhav Saxena and Radha Thakur 21-12, 21-11.
In women’s singles, Amolika Singh brushed aside Manyata Mehta 21-6, 21-9 to make it to the last eight. While pairing with Tapaswani Samant Rai, Amolika defeated the duo of Anjali and Naina Kaushik 21-6, 21-3 in women’s doubles.

Arjun Sharma and Vikesh Chaurasiya stormed into the boys under-12 final of the 1st Decathlon District Tennis Championship, notching up convincing wins here on Friday. Arjun defeated Riyan Aziz Khan 4-0, whereas Vikesh beat Karman Kohli 4-1.

Hosts SAI Lucknow weightlifter Brijesh Singh hogged the limelight, winning two gold medals on the second day of the Sports Authority of India’s All-India Weightlifting Championship here on Friday. Brijesh had gold medals in 77 kg category in both youth and boys categories.

Trials to pick Lucknow under-14 boys for the state trials would be conducted by the Cricket Association Lucknow on October 3, at the Northern Railway stadium here.
