MEANWHILE IN UP…...

While CM Yogi Adiyanath was busy leading a yatra in Kerala, SP and the Congress sought to create some waves in UP. Whereas Akhilesh Yadav was in Agra for SP’s convention beginning Thursday, Congress VP Rahul Gandhi began his three-day trip to Amethi.

Modi should not waste India’s time. He should begin providing jobs to the youth. There are two main issues in India, the issue of farmers and that of providing employment Rahul Gandhi, Congress V-P in Amethi

AGRA : In the backdrop of the Yadav family political feud, the focus is on whether Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav will attend the party’s 10th national convention in Agra on Thursday

The meeting is scheduled at the ‘Taarghar Ka Maidan’ in the Taj City where Akhilesh Yadav’s re-election as the Samajwadi Party national chief is a foregone conclusion.

Akhilesh’s estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav has further intensified the guessing game by saying: “I will not go, I can’t. I am not part of the national executive. I have given my blessings and wished him (Akhilesh) luck. I don’t know if Netaji will go or not.”

Shivpal said this on Wednesday after a meeting with Mulayam in Lucknow while the entire party organisation went to Agra for the Thursday’s convention. The feud between the Akhilesh and Shivpal camps began over a year ago. Akhilesh was chosen the party’s national president at an emergency national convention on January 1, replacing Mulayam who was made the party’s chief patron at the same meeting.

Mulayam, who never acknowledged the new position, has been supporting Shivpal.

Akhilesh Yadav did not invite Mulayam to the state convention in Lucknow on September 23 but sought his presence at Agra. Initially, the publicity format for the Agra meet did not have Mulayam’s pictures. But now, nearly all the posters, hoardings and banners have Mulayam’s face on them along with Akhilesh.

Akhilesh had invited Mulayam to the Agra convention after Mulayam at a press conference in Lucknow on September 25 said he would not form any party. The day after, Akhilesh reached Mulayam’s place and invited him, but Mulayam has not indicated whether he will attend or skip the event.

“I have invited him. I have his blessings, will seek more blessings,” Akhilesh said at a press conference in Agra when asked about Mulayam’s participation.

Sunil Singh ‘Sajaan’, a prominent youth leader in the party, said: “There is all likelihood that Netaji (Mulayam) will come.” But off the record, most say: “He will not until Akhilesh restores the (party) presidency to him.”

It seems Akhilesh will not return the post to his father. Rather, he will become the party president for a five-year term instead of three years for which the party chiefs (always Mulayam) were elected earlier.

The convention is expected to ratify the amendments made in the party constitution in April, under which the party will choose its president for five years. The schedule for Thursday is a clear giveaway that Akhilesh will be elected president. The programme says “Closing of the convention at 5pm by the national president Akhilesh Yadav.” The election is slated for 10.45am.

As Akhilesh’s ‘favourite’ uncle Ramgopal Yadav is the election officer and master of ceremonies at the convention, some are sure that Mulayam will not show up.

IF MULAYAM DOES TURN UP, CONFUSION OVER THE PARTY LEADERSHIP MAY NOT END. BUT IF HE STAYS AWAY, THE PARTY WILL BE IN FULL CONTROL OF AKHILESH.
