LUCKNOW: Buoyed by the success of Jan Raksha Yatra led by chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Kerala on Wednesday, the BJP has planned more such yatras by Yogi to woo the voters in poll bound Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

To protest against the targeted killing of BJP workers allegedly by CPM cadre in Kerala, BJP national president Amit Shah launched the Jan Raksha Yatra on Tuesday at Payyannur in Kannur district. He walked 8 km from Payyannur to Pilathara with hundreds of BJP workers to register protest against the killings.

On Wednesday, Adityanath led the yatra along with Kerala BJP president Kummanam Rajashekharan. He marched with the BJP workers in Kannur district that is considered the stronghold of CPM and home district of Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The 15-km long march by Adityanath generated large enthusiasm among the BJP workers as he lashed out at the Left government for the murder of BJP workers.

“The response of the people to the yatra in the southern states clearly indicates that Yogi has emerged as the poster boy of Hindutva with a pan-India recognition,” said a BJP leader. The party may organize more yatras led by Yogi in other states, he said.

Political observer Sanjay Singh said, “Facing criticism over the economic slowdown, the BJP needs a leader who could galvanize the cadre before the assembly elections in the crucial states. The BJP leadership tested Yogi’s charisma in Kerala where the saffron brigade is trying hard to gain a foothold. The response of the people has been good,” he said. As the Yogi government has merely completed six months in power with no major projects to showcase, the BJP plans to highlight the measures taken by his government on the Hindutva plank.
