CHENNAI: TTV Dinakaran, rebel AIADMK leader and nephew of jailed leader VK Sasikala, on Wednesday said that his uncle, M Natarajan, had undergone a successful liver and kidney transplant and was doing fine at a private hospital here in Chennai.

Dinakaran spoke with media persons here after calling on Natarajan, who is Sasikala’s husband, at the hospital on Wednesday.

Dinakaran also said doctors had told him that Natarajan was recovering.

The organs were harvested from a patient, an accident victim in Thanjavur, who was airlifted to the private hospital in Chennai where he was declared brain dead.

Karthik, a daily wage earner, was seriously injured in the head. He was discharged from Thanjavur Government Hospital and brought to Chennai’s Gleneagles Global Hospitals on Monday night.

Karthik was airlifted by the Coimbatore-based Ganga air ambulance services that ferried him from Tiruchirapalli to Chennai in a night-flying operation.

Sources in the ambulance service refrained from mentioning the amount of bill raised and who would pay it.

According to doctors at the Global Hospital, 74-year old Natarajan was stable after a seven-and-a-half hour multiple organ transplant operation, which began late on Tuesday night.
