‘Focus on innovative technology for growth’
VARANASI: Former president of Nasscom Kiran Karnik on Saturday exhorted the engineering students to come up with innovative technologies to accelerate growth in the country.
Addressing the sixth convocation at IIT-BHU at Swatantrata Bhawan on BHU premises, Karnik said innovation was a must in technology.
“Engineers should work for innovation to fuel growth in the country,” he said.
Keynote speaker and social activist Somdev Tyagi gave tips to students on how to lead a meaningful life.
Mrinali Modi and Manu Agrawal, students of chemical engineering and computer science and engineering, were given eight medals each in different categories.
Ranvir Singh (civil engineering), Harsh Kumar Kedia (electrical engineering), Vaibhav Goyal (electronics engineering) and Akash Rai (mechanical engineering) bagged seven medals each for outstanding performance in various examinations.
Prabhotosh Kumar (metallurgical engineering) and Nikhil Kumar (B Pharma) got three medals each while Khushi Sahoo (mining engineering) and Harsh Goyal (civil engineering) got two medals. A total of 1,256 students were awarded medals.
The award distribution was conducted by the institute’s registrar Dr SP Mathur.
The event began with the garlanding of Mahamana Malaviya’s bust. IIT-BHU director Prof Rajeev Sangal announced the inauguration of the event.
