MEERUT: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday urged the forces to contribute in keeping the unity and integrity of the country intact to realise the 2022 New India vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the officers and jawans of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) at the silver jubilee function of the force here, Singh said the personnel had delivered during natural calamities, riots and other critical situations.

“RAF is like a mini-force. Your work is full of challenges and you have always accomplished your task successfully. The services of RAF will be required until there is unrest in the country,” he said.

“Rapid Action Force should make efforts to ensure unity and integrity.. which are important to realise the PM’s dream of a New India.”

Singh announced that five more RAF battalions will come up. Ten RAF battalions are presently operational in the country.

RAF, an anti-riot and crowd control unit under the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was created in October 1992.

Singh honoured 16 RAF jawans and officers as well as the widows of the personnel who died in the line of duty.

Singh also released a commemorative postage stamp of ₹5 depicting the RAF.

Appreciating the work of RAF and its women battalion, Singh said: “In all circumstances, RAF has followed rules and worked with patience, self-control and presence of mind. At times physical force has to be used. In such a situation, you should use presence of mind.”
