THE MAHAPANCHAYAT IN BAGHPAT’S CHIRCHITA VILLAGE ALLEGED THAT SUMIT GURJAR WAS KILLED IN A FAKE ENCOUNTER

MEERUT: Three days after the alleged encounter of gangster Sumit Gurjar, the mahapanchayat in Baghpat’s Chirchita village convinced his family to perform his last rites on Friday.

Alleging that Sumit was killed in a fake encounter, the mahapanchayat decided that it would continue to protest against the policemen involved in the operation. Sumit, who had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, was shot dead in a late night encounter in Noida on Tuesday.

Claiming it to be a cold-blooded murder, Sumit’s family refused to perform his last rites and demanded a CBI inquiry into the encounter. His family members also lodged an FIR against the policemen who were involved in the encounter.

Additional superintendent of police, Baghpat, Ajay Kumar Singh claimed Sumit had no criminal record in his home district. According to Noida police, he was involved in crimes like robbery and extortion in various sectors of Noida and Greater Noida.

A mahapanchayat was convened in the village on Friday in which Gurjar leaders from various parties participated. The mahapanchayat blamed the police for eliminating Sumit in a fake encounter and said they would continue their protest. The mahapanchayat, however, convinced Sumit’s family to perform the last rites.

Earlier, BJP leader Mukhiya Gurjar and former minister in the SP government Kuldeep Ujjwal also met Sumit’s family.
