NO MENTION OF STATUE IN PROJECT: GUV

VARANASI : Governor Ram Naik on Tuesday said that there was no mentioning of any such idol in the presentati­on given before him by the state government on Monday. Naik was in Varanasi where he attended convocatio­n at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth on Tuesday.

Replying a query regarding state government's plan to install a 100 feet tall grand statue of Lord Rama at the bank of River Saryu in Ayodhya, Governor said, “State government has given a presentati­on before me on Monday. There was no mentioning of any such idol. But whoever visits Ayodhya has a desire to see idol of Lord Rama.”

He, however, said that there was a discussion going over it. The state government would take decision over the matter after looking into all aspects.

On a question related to the recent incident of violence and cane charge on the girls, governor said that the BHU is a central University. And he is connected with the state. However, the kind of situation emerged in the BHU shouldn’t have taken place. What happened in the BHU shouldn’t have happened.

Speaking in convocatio­n, he said condition of education had improved in state universiti­es. Exams were held on time and results were being declared as per schedule while efforts were on to remove dearth of teachers in varsities. In all, 99,893 degrees were issued and 59 students were given gold medals. Scientist Dr K Radhakrish­anan was chief guest on the occasion. He said technology helped in spreading light of education to the common man.
