BAREILLY: A 50-year-old man was attacked by a mob in Usait area of Badaun on Tuesday morning. He later succumbed to injuries.

The victim was returning home after offering prayers at a mosque when the incident happened. Police initiated investigation and registered an FIR against seven people on Wednesday.

“The deceased, Qausar Ali was allegedly attacked by Mohsin Aalam, Ishrat and five others around 7 am on Tuesday,” said Kamal Kishore, SP (city), confirming the incident.

“Prima facie, the attack seems to be an outcome of an old dispute between the parties. Our team is investigating the other aspects of the case,” added the officer.

According to the police complaint lodged by family members of the deceased, “Mohsin Alam and others surrounded Qausar Ali near the end of the street, which leads to the mosque and attacked him with wooden sticks. The attackers later dumped an unconscious Qausar in a drain and fled from the spot.”

After being informed about the attack, his family members took Qausar to the district hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

“The post-mortem report has confirmed severe injuries in the abdomen, head and back that resulted in death,” he said.

Based on the police complaint, an FIR was lodged against the attackers under sections 302 (murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 350 (criminal force) and 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code at Usait Police station. The SHO of Usait is heading the investigation.

“We have identified all the accused. They are currently absconding, but our two teams are raiding their hideouts to arrest them,” said SHO Rajiv Kumar.

“We have submitted the details of their phone numbers to our surveillance teams to trace their location,” he added.
