More trouble for BBAU prof as CBI lodges FIR in DA case

LUCKNOW: More trouble is in store for BBAU professor Vipin Saxena as the anti-corruption bureau of the Central Bureau of Investigat­ion (CBI), Lucknow, registered a fresh case of disproport­ionate assets against him on Tuesday.

A CBI team had on June 2 arrested the then honorary director of University Institute of Engineerin­g and Technology (UIET) at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Prof Vipin Saxena, for demanding a bribe of ₹50,000 each to renew contracts of 28 teachers.

The CBI team first arrested office assistant Vijay Saxena when he was accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 while Prof Vipin Saxena was nabbed after his connivance was establishe­d in the case.

Prof Saxena has allegedly amassed disproport­ionate assets of up to 144 per cent of his known sources of income.

He is presently out on bail but is still under suspension.

Inspector in CBI’s anti-corruption bureau Onkar Singh lodged an FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Prof Saxena for accumulati­ng disproport­ionate assets between July 13, 2016 and June 3, 2017 as the honorary director of UIET.

As per the complaint, he accumulate­d disproport­ionate assets to the tune of ₹ 28, 96, 888 during this period.

The complainan­t mentioned in the FIR that the CBI team seized unaccounte­d cash of ₹ 14 lakh during the search at the professor’s house on BBAU campus after his arrest. He said the professor failed to provide satisfacto­ry answer to queries regarding the cash.

He said Prof Saxena accumulate­d multiple assets in his name and his family members which included two plots in Rajni Khand worth ₹4.84 lakh and ₹15 lakh, a flat in Noida for ₹23,86865 (present cost ₹65, 10, 960), a flat in Aliganj worth ₹4,29,835 and ₹14,08,994 cash in six saving bank accounts opened in the name of the professor and his wife Alka Saxena who has no source of income.

Inspector Atul Dixit of CBI’s anti-corruption bureau has been asked to carry out further investigat­ion.
