LMC GEARING UP FOR TAKEOVER OF KANHA UPVAN

-

LUCKNOW: The state government has directed the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to gear up for the takeover of Kanha Upvan after November 5. Officials have started preparing guidelines for the tenders to be floated this month for NGOs to care for animals at Kanha Upvan.

Principal secretary, urban development, Manoj Singh said, “I have visited Kanha Upvan and there is enough food for the animals. NGO ‘Jeevashraya’ has agreed to arrange fodder for animals till November 4. The NGO cannot leave without following the spirit of the agreement.”

“I am reviewing the situation every day and will not let any animal die due to hunger,” he added.

LMC officials said they have planned to increase the capacity of Kanha Upvan. The capacity of cows’ enclosure would be increased to 3,000 while that of bulls’ enclosure would be enhanced to 5,000 so that stray cattle caught by LMC could be housed here.

Municipal commissioner Udairaj Singh said around 115 staff of the LMC is deployed at Kanha Upvan for its maintenance. The manpower would be increased, if the capacity of enclosures is increased, he added.
