LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday emphasised the need for formation of WhatsApp groups of blocklevel functionaries for effective monitoring of and updates on welfare schemes in villages.

The block-level WhatsApp groups, he said, could be extended and connected to the government level for the same purpose. Targets, he said, could be easily achieved with the help of efficient use of technology.

Addressing chief joint development officers at the Vikas Bhawan here, he said senior officials should avoid calling the field officials to their offices again and again for meetings. “Instead, they should themselves move in the field, interacting with beneficiaries and taking their feedback on the government schemes, ” he said.

He said names of welfare schemes and their beneficiaries must be written on the walls of the government buildings in villages for greater transparency.

He asked the officials to pay special attention to those 1625 villages that were the least developed.

schemes must reach these villages within next one year,” he said.

The chief minister said effective implementation of schemes like Pradhan Mantri rural housing scheme, Pradhan Mantri gramin sarak yojana, MNREGA, state rural livelihood mission and the rural drinking water scheme could go a long way in changing the picture of villages.

The chief minister told the officials to see to it that the 61,700 women self-help groups formed under the livelihood mission were provided financial and technical assistance to make women self-reliant.
