THIS WAS THE FIRST MEETING MAHENDRA NATH PANDEY HELD WITH PARTY OFFICE BEARERS AFTER TAKING OVER AS THE STATE BJP CHIEF.

KANPUR: The BJP focused on the need for it to do well in the civic body elections likely to be held across the state the next month.

The discussions at the closed door meet held on Wednesday ahead of the party’s state executive conference on Thursday revolved around this issue.

The party leaders said the BJP’s chances hinged on the right selection of the candidates and rejuvenating the grass root party workers. They felt the grass root workers had become dormant and needed to be re-energised, according to party sources.

This was the first meeting Mahendra Nath Pandey held with party office bearers after taking over as the state BJP chief. The party’s national vice-president Om Mathur attended the meeting that was aimed at preparing the political resolution for the state executive meeting which will be held at a private engineering college on the outskirts of the city. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy chief ministers Keshav Maurya, state organisation secretary Sunil Bansal, Mathur and 68 delegates will attend the state executive.

The points raised during the meeting on Wednesday will be incorporated in the political resolution after consultation with the members of the state executive. The leaders also sought the views of those in attendance.

The committee entrusted with making of political resolution was asked to keep the draft ready, said Mohit Pandey, regional spokesman. The birth centenary celebrations of RSS ideologue Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay were also discussed.
