FOR PURITY OF THOUGHTS, ONE MUST SHUN ALL NEGATIVE EMOTIONS
Mahatma Gandhi had said, “I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.” Certainly, we must not allow ourselves to be negatively influenced by others.
Our aim should be purity of thoughts. But for that we must ensure that our mind is free from all negativities.
If we do not entertain unfavourable thoughts for others, we will never resort to slander, calumny and use of offensive words which, in any case, show us in poor light rather than lowering the esteem of the person spoken about.
Ill will towards another human being eats into our own being. Besides its obvious fallout, a less than healthy relationship with others and a polluted mind stifles the personality of those harbouring such negative thoughts.
At the same time, we must also not fall into the trap of being indifferent. On the contrary, our heart must always brim with love, kindness and warmth for all.
This will give us harmony, both inside as well as outside.
So, if we want a happy frame of mind we must eschew all negative emotions and always remember the words of Gautam Buddha, “If you speak and act with a pure mind, happiness will follow you, as a shadow clings to a form.”
