PM Awas Yojana flats to come up at Balaganj, Basantkunj

LUCKNOW: To roll out the ambitious Prime Minister Awas Yojana for the urban poor, the Lucknow Development Authority has identified land at two spots in the state capital.

The development authority has finalized one hectare land at Balaganj and 10 bigha at Basantkunj for the project.

Soon it will apprise the state government about the two locations where it intends to construct flats under the flagship project of the Narendra Modi government. According to LDA officials, 450 flats would be constructed in Balaganj and 1200 at Basantkunj. “The state government will be apprised of the two locations at Balaganj and Basantkunj for the scheme,” said Jai Shanker Dubey, secretary, LDA.

The two agencies of the state government- Lucknow Development Authority and Awas Vikas Parishad- had been instructed to spot the land for implementing the PM’s project for those who don’t own a land.

The union government has set a target for making available a house for all homeless people by 2022 when India completes 75 years of its Independence.

The project would cover such people in the EWS category whose annual income is not more than Rs 3 lakh and in the LIG category with people having annual income not more than ₹6 lakh. The union government has now decided to added mid-income group people also in this welfare housing scheme. “The LDA is taking all possible measures to roll out the project within stipulated time frame,” added Dubey. The state government has also asked its agencies like the LDA and the Awas Vikas Parishad to earmark 30% of the houses in all housing projects for the PMAY scheme to achieve the target of making available houses for all by 2022. The UP government has already announced to construct two lakh houses this year under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The two-room set would also have a bathroom and a kitchen.

The government has approved a model prepared by the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) that is on a 28.09 square meter land and its carpet area is 21.43 square meter costing ₹3.34 lakh. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath is personally monitoring the progress of the project.

The housing scheme has been specially prepared for those who have their own land and the SUDA would provide financial assistance of ₹2.5 lakh. This money would be disbursed in three instalments. First instalment of ₹one lakh would be released at the start of construction work and second instalment of the same amount would be released at the time of roofing of the house. The third instalment of ₹50,000 would be released at the time of finishing work.
