Now, placing hoardings without permission to invite penal action
LUCKNOW: Placing hoardings, banners and buntings for political rallies or private functions without taking permission and paying taxes to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will now invite penal action. In view of the petition pending on the issue at Allahabad high court, the LMC has decided to penalize and file FIR against those flouting norms.
Additional municipal commissioner PK Srivastava said, “According to section 193 of Lucknow Municipal Corporation Act 1959, no one can place any hoardings or campaign material anywhere in the city without the permission of municipal corporation.” Till now, political parties did not care to take permission for placing hoardings, buntings, flags and other material for their rallies.
They used to spoil the skyline with hoardings, generate pollution by using plastic buntings and caused choking of drains by leaving tons of waste.
However, in the absence of clear government directives, the LMC had no choice but to ignore the practice.
Recently, hearing a plea by one Suneel Chaudhary, high court had served the notice to all the local bodies and department of urban development.
The date of hearing has been fixed on November 13.
Earlier on April 4 this year, high court has ordered to remove illegal hoardings and publicity material in every city.
The chief secretary too had issued a similar order on June 23 this year to all the local bodies to get rid of illegal hoardings and publicity material.
