UP to conduct mass marriages for BPL families

ALLAHABAD : With an aim to help families living below poverty line (BPL) marry off their daughters; the state government will launch ‘Mukhyamant­ri Samuhik Vivah Yojana.’ Under the scheme fixed monetary aid of ₹35,000 would be provided to families of such girls for their marriage. The scheme would be conducted by Social Welfare Department. A mass marriage ceremony would be organised for a minimum 10 couples at a time and publicity of the scheme would be carried out by office of district magistrate as well as social welfare department. The state government has allocated ₹25lakh for the scheme. Minimum eligibilit­y for the scheme include parents of the girl should be residents of Uttar Pradesh besides their annual income must be below poverty line.
