UP to con­duct mass mar­riages for BPL fam­i­lies

AL­LA­HABAD : With an aim to help fam­i­lies liv­ing be­low poverty line (BPL) marry off their daugh­ters; the state govern­ment will launch ‘Mukhya­mantri Sa­muhik Vi­vah Yo­jana.’ Un­der the scheme fixed mone­tary aid of ₹35,000 would be pro­vided to fam­i­lies of such girls for their mar­riage. The scheme would be con­ducted by So­cial Wel­fare Depart­ment. A mass mar­riage cer­e­mony would be or­gan­ised for a min­i­mum 10 cou­ples at a time and pub­lic­ity of the scheme would be car­ried out by of­fice of district mag­is­trate as well as so­cial wel­fare depart­ment. The state govern­ment has al­lo­cated ₹25lakh for the scheme. Min­i­mum el­i­gi­bil­ity for the scheme in­clude par­ents of the girl should be res­i­dents of Ut­tar Pradesh be­sides their an­nual in­come must be be­low poverty line.
