LUCKNOW: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday stated that India had become a strong nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and now China also understood this.
“The country’s borders are safe and now China has started acknowledging the fact that India is no more a weak nation and its strength has increased,” said Singh at an event organised by the Bharatiya Lodhi Mahasabha. The home minister is on a two-day visit to Lucknow.
To drive home his point, the minister gave an example of the recent 73-day stand-off between India and China at Doklam, a strategically key area at the Bhutan-India-China tri-junction in Sikkim sector. After India’s stiff resistance, both the countries decided to pull out their troops from the area on August 29 this year.
He added: “India’s prestige at the international level has grown after the formation of government at the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Singh also attacked Pakistan, saying it was sponsoring terrorism in India.
“Pakistan is taking all possible steps to destabilise and disintegrate India. But our security forces are killing five to 10 terrorists in Kashmir every day,” he said.
Commenting on the policies of the Modi government, the union home minister said: “Our government is committed to the cause of welfare of poor and underprivileged people.”
Singh pointed out several schemes rolled out by the Modi government for the poor, including Jandhan Yojana and Ujjwala Yojana, under which free LPG connections were given to the rural poor across the country.
“Narendra Modi is the first PM who took effective measures to ensure that the poor have easy access to the banking system,” he added.
The minister also lauded the Centre for giving three-and-half years of corruption-free governance.
“The Congress government faced several charges of corruption, but no allegations of corruption could be levelled against us,” said Singh.
On the occasion, Singh minister also lauded PM Modi’s cleanliness campaign.
Commenting on the function organised by the Bhartiya Lodhi Mahasabha, Singh said: “We do not do caste-based politics. We do politics to build the nation. Participating in programmes organised by caste-based groups does not mean we do caste politics.”
It may be pointed out that Singh, who represents Lucknow in the Lok Sabha, was chief guest at the Kayastha Pratibha Samman Samaroh, an event organised by the Kayastha community on Saturday.
