LMGC’s Gandhi Corner organises ‘Girl Child Day’ for underprivileged kids
LUCKNOW: The Gandhi Corner of La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow, organised the ‘Day of the Girl Child’ on Sunday for the underprivileged girls of the neighbouring slums and orphanages.
Over 700 girls from institutions such as Pushpa Vidyalaya, Jagriti School, St Francis Dispensary, St Joseph's Cathedral, Lalbagh Orphanage, Holy Redeemer Church, Nav Srijan, Prayas, Prerna, Deepshikha and Modern Madarsa took part in the event. Children of LMGC staff also participated in the celebrations.
Aneesha Sharma and Swati Sharma from the Art of Living Foundation conducted a yoga session for the participants. Kids aged 5-8 years enthusiastically took part in dance and fancy dress competitions. The 9-to-12year-olds participated in mask-making and mock advertisement contests. For older children (13-16 years), group elocution and cooking competitions (with no use of fire) were held. An animation film was also screened at the college auditorium.
The celebration included breakfast and lunch for the girls. They relished fruits, ice creams, sweets and juices. As return gifts, they were given small packets containing items contributed by the staff and the students.
Principal LMGC, Aashrita Dass, gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions. “Through this programme, we have tried to inculcate a sense of sharing among our students,” she said.
