SP student wing sweeps AUSU polls
ALLAHABAD: The Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha (SCS), the student wing of the Samajwadi Party, swept the Allahabad University Student Union (AUSU) polls winning four out of five posts in the election the results of which were declared late on Saturday night.
While the SCS bagged the posts of president, vice president, joint secretary and cultural secretary, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) could win the post of general secretary only. The ABVP is the student wing of the RSS-BJP.
SCS candidate Awanish Kumar Yadav defeated his nearest rival Mrityunjay Rao Parmar, an independent candidate, by 552 votes to win the post of president. Awanish polled 3226 votes while Mrityunjay got 2674 votes. The ABVP’s Priyanka Singh stood a distant third with 1588 votes.
For the vice president’s post, SCS’s Chandrasekhar Chaudhary beat his ABVP rival Shivam Kumar Tiwari by 72 votes. Chandrashekhar got 2249 votes while Shivam managed 2177 votes. Vijay Singh Baghel of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party, came third with 1661 votes.
ABVP’s Nirbhay Kum ar Dwivedi defeated his nearest rival Arpit Singh of the NSUI to bag the general secretary’s post. Nirbhay secured 2132 votes against Arpit’s 2071. Samajwadi Chatra Sabha’s Rohit Kumar Yadav stood third with 1949 votes.
For the post of joint secretary, SCS’s Bharat Singh got 2051 votes beating an independent Adarsh Shukla by 630 votes. Adarsh polled 1421 votes.
Avdhesh Kumar Patel of the SCS bagged the post of cultural secretary by defeating ABVP’s Abhishek Kumar Awasthi by a margin of 912 votes. Patel secured 3801 votes while Awasthi got 2889 votes. In 2015, the ABVP had bagged four out five posts except the president’s post. In 2016, the SCS had won three posts of vicepresident, general secretary and cultural secretary but the ABVP had bagged the posts of president and the joint secretary.
OATH ADMINISTERED
The newly elected office bearers of the Allahabad University Student Union (AUSU) were administered oath of office at the union hall of the university on Sunday. Returning officer prof RK Singh administered them the oath at a ceremony watched by a huge crowd of students.
