LUCKNOW: Lucknow University will set up a corpus fund with the help of alumni support.

An alumni association will be formed and former students can become life members by contributing a sum of ₹1,100 each as lifetime fee, which will go into creating the fund.

Only those will be eligible for membership who got their last degree from the university at least five years ago.

Many alumni have promised to contribute individually to this fund when it starts functioning.

These were some of the decisions taken at a meeting of LU alumni with university officials on Monday.

Nearly 80% of the corpus fund would be utilised for the development of the university. The alumni account will be opened in the name of the finance officer of the university.

The alumni would also urge the government to grant central status to University of Lucknow. It was also decided that the alumni function will coincide with LU’s Foundation Day on November 25.

The university wants to use the expertise of its former students in preparing a roadmap to take the campus forward.

University officials expressed desire to celebrate the centenary year of the campus with alumni in 2020-21.

This was the first meeting called by LU vice-chancllor SP Singh to rope in past students.

Though only a handful of alumni turned up, but university officials were optimistic that in days to come more would join hands.
