Priyanka Maheshwari is party’s mayoral candidate
LUCKNOW: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declared its first list of 19 candidates for the corporators’ posts in the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) and announced Priyanka Maheshwari as its mayoral candidate for the civic bodies’ polls from the state capital.
Priyanka is wife of AAP district coordinator Gaurav Maheshwari who resigned from the post on Monday due to his wife’s candidature. She is an MBA graduate and manages family business.
Now, Kamlendra Singh Trinetra is district coordinator of the party. “There is rampant corruption in the LMC. My first priority will be to rid this civic body of corruption,” said Priyanka.
Listing out the party’s priorities, the AAP mayoral candidate said: “The Delhi model will be implemented in Lucknow.” She promised to cut down house and water tax by half and start ‘mohalla clinics’ on the lines of Delhi.
“Through RTI, the AAP exposed corruption in LMC in e-tendering process. But even then no action has been taken against any of the engineers responsible for the scam,” said Priyanka.
In August last year, AAP leader Gaurav Maheshwari had filed 330 RTIs in the LMC.
All the RTIs were filed in the name of Gaurav Maheshwari and each RTI had 15 questions. Through RTIs, AAP had sought details of the money spent by the civic body on development projects in all 110 wards of Lucknow.
The AAP had also sought details of the money spent by the LMC on projects related with improving drainage system in all wards. All the information sought was related to the financial year 2015-16.
The party took out ‘padyatras’ in all the wards last year, selecting one or two wards every day depending on their size. During these ‘padyatras’, AAP got overwhelming response from locals.
