THIS DIWALI, SHED ALL THE NEGATIVITY AND EMBRACE POSITIVE VIBES

- Veena Gandhi

It’s that time of the year in India, where before Diwali, we do a thorough cleaning of our homes. This is the time when old things give way to the new. By now, in most households, the unwanted items would have been sorted out and new things unpacked with pleasure. I, too, do this each year. After all, everyone in the family likes an overhauling of the home.

Here’s what happened on my cleaning day. I cleaned my wardrobe. All the old clothes which were not of my use, I gave them to my domestic help. After giving those to her I said, ‘Thank You’. My son asked me why I had thanked the help when I was the giver. ‘Shouldn’t the taker express gratitude?’ I politely explained to him that these clothes were of no use to me and I was giving them away to clean my wardrobe and to make place for new ones. The help is content with or without these clothes. She did not ask for them, neither are they a basic requirement for her. So I’m not helping her, she is helping me make space in my wardrobe and to stock it with the new things I wish to buy.

So, I am thanking her since she is ‘utilising’ my money which I thought was a waste. Whenever we give our old, useless belongings to anybody we should be thankful from the core of our heart to the ‘taker’ as he is helping us to create a new beginning. We are shedding our negativity to embrace positivism in our life. Inner Voice comprises contributions from our readers. The views expressed are personal Innervoice@hindustantimes.com n
