CM to felicitate kin of slain cops

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will pay tribute to martyred police personnel in a programme in Police Lines on the Police Commemorat­ion Day on Saturday.

The CM will also honour the family members of the six policemen who laid down their life in the line of duty. He is also likely to announce launch of career benefits and amenities for the policemen.

A police officer said the family members of the policemen who will be honoured by the CM included Rakesh Sharma, Vijay Kumar, Rajkumar Singh, Ravikumar Rawat, Satish Chand and Jai Prakash Singh.

Rakesh Sharma and Vijay Kumar were posted in the security of Praveen and his family members, native of village Gagnauli in Baghpat district, the police officer said.

On October 10 last year, criminals attacked family members of Praveen. Both Sharma and Kumar challenged the criminals. The duo was shot dead but the family members escaped unhurt.

Rajkumar Singh posted in Raniganj police station in Pratapgarh district was entrusted with the task of preparing a dossier of the criminals active in the area.

On April 8, Singh visited the house of a notorious criminal Irshad Ali in Bujdaura village to record the statement of his family members. Irshad was hiding in the house. When Singh tried to nab him, Irshad fired and bullet hit Singh on the chest. He died on the spot.

Ravikumar Rawat posted in Firozabad district was killed by the criminals involved in illegal sand mining on April 8. Satish Chandra posted in Agra was killed on July 28 when he challenged the criminals during night patrolling.
