Windscreen smashers on the prowl in Gomti Nagar

-

LUCKNOW: Residents of a Gomti Nagar colony are under fear of a motorcycle borne unidentified young couple that breaks windscreens of cars parked on the roadside.

The couple broke windscreens of nearly 13 cars parked along the road in Gomti Nagar’s Vineet Khand early morning on Saturday. The windscreens of two more cars in Gomti Nagar extension were found broken on Sunday morning. Although the car owners informed the police control room on phone, nobody turned up to register a formal complaint in the incident.

On Saturday morning, the wind screen smashing took place in Virat Khand colony of Gomti Nagar when most of the residents were sleeping in their houses at around 4 am.

A local Shubham said he woke up after hearing the sound of glass breaking and came out of the house to spot a couple riding on a motorcycle, hitting windscreens of the cars of local residents parked outside the houses.

He said a youth was driving the bike while a girl, who was the pillion rider, was hitting the cars’ windscreens with a hammer. He said the couple broke windscreens of 13 cars within 5-6 minutes and fled from the spot when some locals shouted after spotting them damaging the vehicles.

The scanning of video footage of some CCTVs installed in the locality revealed that the couple fled towards a road leading to Gomti Nagar extension.

Inspector of Gomti Nagar police station Anand Shukla said a police team had been deployed to track the couple even though no complaint was lodged in the matter.
