UP gets 2nd world-class badminton court
ALLAHABAD: Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and sports minister Chetan Chauhan inaugurated the state’s second indoor badminton court at Mayo Hall sports complex on Sunday.
The other indoor badminton court is in Lucknow.
The badminton court is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to groom and train professional players.
This new badminton court will give a boost to the Smart City plans of Allahabad.
District magistrate, Allahabad, Sanjay Kumar who was present on the occasion said the badminton court would be an asset for the city where budding sportspersons would be nurtured.
The new badminton hall has eight badminton courts, two squash courts, one gymnasium and a locker room.
It badminton court has been constructed at a cost of Rs 16 crore where both amateur and professional players can practice. Designed in the shape of a whale, the badminton court has already started attracting sports lovers.
The badminton court has maple flooring and can accommodate 1,500 people. The construction material used to develop the hall was procured from different parts of the country as well as abroad, including China and Portugal.
The sports complex, presently owned and managed by UP sports directorate, has facilities for basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis and table-tennis players.
