KANPUR: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday that Chitrakoot would be made a border free zone, which will integrate its Uttar Pradesh part with the Madhya Pradesh side. In all likelihood, the modalities for this will be worked out later.

He also observed that the UP and MP governments have the same soul. The BJP is in power in both the states.

Adityanath was speaking during his first visit to Chitrakoot, the second most sacred spot on the Ram circuit that he is developing.

He promised to shower gifts on Chitrakoot.

He said India had developed along the rivers. “The River Mandakini will be cleaned and restored to its pristine glory.”

Asserting his government was fully committed to overall development of Chitrakoot, he said it was a sacred land and its development was everyone’s moral responsiblity. After reaching Chitrakoot late in the evening from Charkhari in Mahoba, he headed straight to Matasya Garendranath temple, a Shiva temple, for rituals.

He spent considerable time in prayers before he met a number of local seers.

He joined the evening ‘aarti’ on the Ramghat, performed rituals at Bharat temple and visited Siya Kutir. “Like the Saryu (aarti) at the birthplace of Bhagwan Ram, the aarti of the Mandakini river at his karma-bhumi was essential,” he said. He sent out a message that his politics should not be seen through religious prism.
