Minor girl allegedly raped by two youths

ALIGARH: Communal tension prevailed in Delhi Gate area of Aligarh on Tuesday after a 15-yearold girl was allegedly kidnapped and gangraped by two youths from another community.

However, swift police interventi­on controlled the situation from escalating. Cops pacified both Hindus and Muslims who had gathered at the Delhi Gate police station on Tuesday.

They also arrested the accused youths and registered a case against them under relevant sections, charging them with kidnapping, rape and under provisions of the POCSO Act. The victim was sent for medical examinatio­n.

Station officer, Delhi Gate, Anuj Kumar told HT, “An FIR has been registered against Imran and Suhail under sections 363, 376 and the POCSO Act. They are in custody. The girl has also been sent for medical examinatio­n.”

Reportedly, the minor was travelling to Hathras to her maternal grandfathe­r’s house when Suhail, 21, and Imran, 23, approached her.

They said they were also going to Hathras and offered her a ride on their motorbike. When the girl declined, they allegedly placed a handkerchi­ef soaked in some chemical on her nose and mouth, due to which she lost consciousn­ess. Then, they took her to an apartment in Upper Kot where they allegedly raped her the whole night.

The youths were caught on Tuesday morning, when they were moving somewhere with

the girl on their motorbike.

She had regained consciousn­ess by that time and raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of the passersby.

People rushed to her rescue and caught the youths. Police was called to the spot, and the victim and the accused were escorted to the Delhi Gate police station.

On receiving informatio­n, BJP leader and former mayor Shakuntala Bharti, accompanie­d by some party activists, also reached the police station.

Meanwhile, people from the Muslim community also arrived there and the atmosphere started getting communally charged. However, police stepped in and controlled the situation. The victim was shifted to the women’s police station.
