LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday urged the fresh pass out doctors from state medical colleges to serve in rural areas in the initial years of their career.

“After obtaining MBBS degree, one should go to villages for one year to serve the society. After postgraduate medical courses, one must serve for two years at such places and after super speciality courses, doctors must dedicate three years to medical practice in rural areas,” said the chief minister.

Addressing the gathering at the launch of services of the women and child referral hospital here in Gomti Nagar, the chief minister said merely getting medical degrees and then working for oneself would not serve the purpose .

Promising to improve the health services in the state, Yogi Adityanath said the government was ready to clear all hurdles in the way of medical education by providing the required resources.

“We can give support and resources but from where will doctors come?” he asked while exhorting medical students to make a commitment to serve the people.

“I have toured in eastern, western and other parts of the state and found that there is

scarcity of doctors not just at primary/community health centres but also at district hospitals,” he said while revealing that the government was planning one medical college each at commissioner level headquarters.

“We are committed to taking medical services to all pockets. The priority will be also to make people aware on prevention of disease and not just treatment,” said the CM.

Medical education minister Ashutosh Tandon, in his address, pointed towards the government’s focus on people’s welfare.
