MYANMAR CONSUL GENERAL DIES IN J’KHAND ROAD ACCIDENT

RANCHI: Myanmar’s consul general, Pyi Soe, posted in Kolkata died in a road accident in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Friday morning when the Toyota Innova car he was travelling in was hit from behind by a speeding truck.

Pyi Soe had gone to Bodh Gaya on a pilgrimage with his wife and another officer of the consulate, who were seriously injured. They were rushed to Ranchi’s Medica Super Specialty Hospital in an ambulance.

Pyi Soe’s body was kept at the local Sadar Hospital for autopsy.The Giridih administra­tion were in contact with the consulate as doctors conducted the post-mortem.

“The incident occurred under Nimiyaghat­i police station area of Giridih,” Jharkhand police spokespers­on, RK Mallick, told HT.

He said that as the vehicle sped towards Kolkata, a motorcycle came in its way. The driver applied brakes to save the motorcycli­st, and the speeding truck rammed the car from behind, killing the consul general on the spot.

“Our officers promptly reached the spot on getting informatio­n and rushed all of them in the car to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced Soe brought dead,” Mallick said.
