ALIGARH: Allahabad high court chief justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale has said that both the Bench and the Bar should take their responsibilities seriously to bring down the pendency of cases and improve the image of UP’s justice delivery system.

He said that advocates were also be blamed for the backlog of cases as their strike was an important reason behind it .

“Strikes greatly affect the petitioners and aggrieved. You may go on strike but the judges and petitioners cannot. You are united and powerful and so you must use that in delivering justice speedily. You should think good and deliver good.”

The chief justice said before joining office in UP he was posted at Mumbai high court, Andhra Pradesh high court and other courts but when he received his transfer orders for UP he was a little wary as the image of court system and advocates in UP was not good outside the state.

impressed that a letter was prepared which was sent to the Prime Minister who released it on the occasion of completion of 150 years of Allahabad high court . Later, it was sent to all high courts in country due to which the picture of UP courts has changed a lot,” he said.

He added, “A new building has been inaugurated today where work will begin from tomorrow . Even now if we fail in delivering justice, then we will be at fault.”

Emphasising on legal services, he said , “The area of alternative dispute resolution system has widened but in Aligarh the mediators are in shortage . So training camps should be started for mediators. Now judges will also be given responsibilities to act as mediator for disposing of cases with mutual compromise . If you will back us, we will succeed . If reforms are not undertaken, there will be no improvement in the justice delivery system.”
