Girl found murdered in house

AGRA: A 20-year-old girl was found murdered in her house at Om Enclave Colony in Sewla region of Agra on Sunday morning. She was scheduled to get married in February.

The deceased, Shivani Verma, who was pursuing a graduation course, was found dead near the stairs of the house by her father.

Ravindra Nath Verma, the girl’s father, is a clerk in the post office. He has two sons – Shivam, a student of BSc and Sachin, a student of Intermedia­te. His wife Usha Verma had gone to Mathura along with Sachin. On Saturday, the girl was in the house with her father and brother.

The deceased’s neck bore a cut mark and a blade was found near the body. A tenant in the house expressed ignorance about any incident during night hours.

Akhilesh Kumar, the sub-inspector officiatin­g as station in-charge for Sadar police station, said an FIR had been lodged against unidentifi­ed accused on the complaint lodged by the girl’s father. The police were investigat­ing all possibilit­ies including that of honour killing.

“We are working on all aspects of the case and hope to work it out soon,” said SP (city) Kunwar Anupam Singh. Ravindra Nath Verma, the girl’s father, is a clerk in the post office. On Saturday night, Shivani had slept in a room on the ground floor of the house where her father and brother had also slept but her father could not find her when he woke up on Sunday morning. He claimed that he searched for Shivani and found her in a pool of blood near the stairs leading to the upper storey.

The police were informed and initially it was said that the girl had committed suicide, but later the father lodged an FIR of murder.
