SP FIELDS MEERA YASHO VARDHAN FROM LUCKNOW
LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party announced on Tuesday the names of nominees for three more mayoral seats for the three-phase UP civic polls, declaring Meera Talwar Yasho Vardhan as the party candidate for Lucknow mayor’s seat reserved for women. Vardhan is married to Yasho Vardhan, grandson of socialist stalwart Acharya Narendra Dev.
LUCKNOW : The Samajwadi Party announced on Tuesday the names of nominees for three more mayoral seats for the threephase UP civic polls, declaring Meera Talwar Yasho Vardhan as the party candidate for Lucknow mayor seat reserved for women.
Meera did her schooling from Loreto Convent , textile designing from South Delhi Polytechnic and Graduation from Meerut University. She is married to Yasho Vardhan, grandson of socialist stalwart Acharya Narendra Dev. Tuesday happened to be the 128th birth anniversary of Acharya Dev. Both Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav separately visited his memorial on the banks of the Gomti to pay their tribute.
Acharya Dev played an important role in the country’s freedom movement along with socialist icons like Ram Manohar Lohia, Jai Prakash Narain and Yusuf Meherally. He was also a renowned educationist and vice chancellor of both LU and BHU and head of Kashi Vidyapeeth.
The party has declared Rahul Chaturvedi and Raj Narain Gupta as its candidate for Agra and Firozabad seats, respectively.
The BJP is yet to take a decision on the name for mayor of Lucknow. Sources said frontrunners include national vice president of party’s women wing Samyukta Bhatia, wife of former BJP lawmaker Satish Bhatia, former
municipal councillor Ranjana Dwivedi, Madhuri Halwasiya, wife of business-politician Sudhir Halwasiya and former bureaucrat Rekha Gupta who was the first woman city magistrate of Lucknow.
“No decision has been taken yet,” a BJP source said adding that “three” names from a long list have been sent to Delhi for approval.
