LUCKNOW: The driver of UP cabinet minister Om Prakash Rajbhar’s car was arrested on Tuesday for causing accidental death of a minor boy in Gonda on Saturday.

Besides arresting Ramjeet Rajbhar, police also seized the Innova car which mowed down Shiva, 8.

“The car is registered in the name of minister’s accomplice Rudra Pratap Singh, a resident of Rasda’s Sultanpur village of Balia district,” said Umesh Kumar Singh, superintendent of police (SP), Gonda.

He said the driver has been booked under IPC section 304 A (causing death due to negligent and reckless driving).

The probe had confirmed that the minister was travelling in the same vehicle at the time of incident.

The vehicle hit the boy while he was playing on the footpath late evening on October 28, said Sadanand Singh, station officer

Earlier, the minister was criticized as the convoy reportedly did not stop to help the victim after the incident.

He, later, expressed grief but maintained that he was unaware about the incident and came to know about it only after travelling for around 50 kilometres. He said was deeply saddened by the incident.

The village had blocked the road in protest after coming to know about the boy’s death. Later, chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced ₹5 lakh relief to the kin of the deceased and asked the DGP office to submit a detailed report on the incident.
