DM genetics student resigns over ‘harassment’
LUCKNOW : A student of Doctor of Medicine (DM) programme at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has resigned alleging harassment meted out to him by the HoD and dean of the institute.
Amit K Samadhiya was given admission to the department of genetics through NEET, but the HoD rejected his admission on the grounds that he did not have MD degree from clinical subjects and he will not be able to treat patients admitted to the department, sources said.
Earlier also HoD Dr Shubha R Phadke had written to the governor to draw his attention to the issue of admission given to students from non-clinical background while expressing concern that as they have not studied any clinical subjects in their MD course, they would be ineligible for admission in the DM genetics course.
According to Dr Samadhiya, he is from biochemistry stream but he got admission to MD genetics as per MCI norms.
In his resignation letter, he has expressed his agony to the director of institute. He stated, “I had total five meetings with the dean. On September 1, I requested the dean to give me admission in the institute, which he turned down ruthlessly stating that he would be happy to keep seats vacant but not give me admission due to my biochemistry background.”
He alleged, “During the fifth meeting on September 26, the dean advised me to tender my resignation. He also suggested that molecular medicine would be suitable for my qualifications and he told that he has proposed the same in high level meeting .”
“I tendered my resignation to the institute after irreparable mental trauma caused due to harassment and humiliation by Dr Shubha R Phadke and dean,” said Dr Samadhiya. He also alleged that he was not assigned any duties at the OPD.
Meanwhile, director PGI professor Rakesh Kapoor said he has received the resignation of the candidate but refused to comment over the allegations levelled by him. Dr Shubha could not be contacted for her comments over the issue.
