SP stakes claim to Sardar Patel legacy
LUCKNOW : Staking claim to the legacy of Sardar Patel, the Samajwadi Party organised on Tuesday his anniversary for the first time in a big way here at the party headquarters.
Recalling the country’s first Union home minister’s role in the unification of the country, which had several independent princely states, party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav said he was called Sardar because people had trust in him.
“But today we have politicians who mislead the people and tell lies all the time,” he said taking a dig at the BJP.
He accused the BJP of misleading the people on issues like the farm loan waiver, GST and demonetisation and claimed that a party that spread lies should not be trusted.
Reacting to the former chief minister's comments, which come ahead of the Uttar Pradesh civic polls, the BJP hit back saying that those discarded by the people were making absurd allegations.

which believed in dividing the society. We should not forget that they do this for political gains,” Akhilesh said.
Be it on the farmers loan waiver promise, GST, bringing back black money stashed abroad or demonetisation, the BJP has misled and fooled the people, he claimed adding that the decisions of the party which is in power at the Centre as well as in UP had severely affected the economy.
Akhilesh also suggested that the Centre should use the photographs of great leaders, who participated in the freedom movement in the new series of currency notes that were being printed.
