Most patients were writhing in pain

LUCKNOW: Most of the patients who were brought to Lucknow hospitals after the boiler blast incident at government-run NTPC plant in Rae Bareli were writhing in pain.

In all, 14 ambulances run under 108 service rushed in the first lot from Rae Bareli to Lucknow with 18 patients who were admitted in different hospitals namely the Civil, the SIPS and the Trauma Centre in the KGMU.

Chandan Kumar was the first to get admitted to the Civil Hospital. However, Kamlesh, 25, was declared brought dead at the same hospital. All hospitals were put on alert in view of the tragic incident.

“Seven of those admitted to our hospital are critical,” said medical superinten­dent of the Civil Hospital Dr Ashutosh Dubey. Dr Raj Mishra of the SIPS Hospital said, “Two patients with us Ghanu Bhuiya, 24, and Shahdeb Sahu, 27, have suffered 100% burns. Sanjeev Sharma, 49, has 75% burns, Prabhat Srivastava, 57, and Mishri Lal 57, have suffered 80% burn injury.” “We have sent ambulances from three districts to cater to the patients in Rae Bareli. Till now, 120 injured labourers have been rescued,” said Ajay Yadav, spokespers­on for 108 ambulance service.
