LUCKNOW: The state government has decided to give show-cause notices to civil servants who have failed to declare their assets despite repeated reminders and several deadline extensions to do so.

The lists of those who have not complied with chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s April 2017 directives include 20 IAS and 26 PCS officers, according to sources in the appointments department.

“We have decided to send these officials one more notice after which appropriate action would be initiated against them if they fail to respond,” said an official requesting anonymity.

The first reminder to all senior officers to ensure disclosure of assets was sent on April 6.

Subsequently, a government order (GO) dated April 25 was dispatched to all the additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and secretaries asking them to take personal interest and treat the May 31 deadline as the last opportunity.

The departments that have complied include secretariat administration department, civil defence, agriculture and agriculture marketing departments.

IAS officers are supposed to provide details about their assets every year. After assuming office on March 19, chief minister Yogi Adityanath had asked all the ministers and officers to declare their assets within 15 days.

The state government had on March 21 circulated a prescribed format to all IAS, PCS, other services officers and employees seeking details about the immoveable properties- the land or house etc. owned by the officers or employees. Officers were asked to disclose details of property inherited and bought by them as well as provide information about the investment made by them in shares along with the deposits in bank accounts etc.

The state government extended the first deadline of April 6, by a week saying the officers and employees had remained busy with closing of financial year on March 31. Later, the state government shifted the April 15 deadline to April 25.

The CM had also sent a similar missive to his ministerial colleagues on April 13 asking them to provide details about their assets “We are not aware about the details of assets of ministers even now,” said a senior officer adding that ministers provide details directly to the chief minister.
