BJP activists protest against official nominee

MUZAFFARNA­GAR: A number of women activists of the BJP staged a protest at Shiv Chowk here on Monday after Sudha Raj Sharma was announced as party’s mayoral candidate for the district.

They also burnt an effigy of local BJP leaders and shouted slogans against the party’s district president. More than 30 women activists of the party were aspiring to contest the mayoral elections in Muzaffarna­gar.

However, on Saturday, the party announced Sudha Raj Sharma as its mayoral candidate. As the women activists were not happy with the party’s decision, they staged a protest after Sudha Raj Sharma filed her nomination on Monday.

They blocked the road at Shiv Chowk and burnt the effigy of local BJP leaders and they shouted slogans against party’s district president Rupendra Saini, BJP MP Sanjeev Baliyaan and BJP MLA Kapil Deo Aggrawal. On getting the informatio­n, Sanjeev Baliyaan along with Aggrawal and Saini reached the spot and tried to calm down the protestors but in vain.

‘TICKET SEEKER’ THROWS INK ON BJP MLA

AGRA Angry over being denied ticket, a BJP party worker allegedly splashed ink over party leaders including MLA Yogendra Upadhaya. Some BJP workers said on the condition of anonymity that accused on the run was seeking BJP ticket for corporator election and had thrown ink in anger on being denied ticket.

However, the MLA denied it alleging that the man, who was later identified as Jitendra Valmiki of Jeoni Mandi, attempted to snatch a gold chain from a party worker and splashed ink on them to flee. The incident took place at Jat House near Agra College on Monday when BJP MLA Yogendra Upadhaya was moving for nomination process of mayoral candidate of party Naveen Jain.

“There was a man in the crowd who attempted to snatch the gold chain of BJP worker Naveen Gautam walking with me but could get hold of only a part of it. When party workers chased him, he splashed ink which fell on me and other party workers,” Upadhaya told HT.
